Debra and Joe
I had ads on Yahoo! Personals for a while and met a lot of nice people but no major click until I met Joe. He answered my ad and right from the start we hit it off fabulously. I was instantly comfortable with him. We emailed the first day, then moved to instant messages and then the phone.
After three days, we decided to meet for dinner. We met in January and now we are moving in together. I started using online personals because I didn't meet people easily in real life. But by being able to post a picture, my responses were unbelievable and I got to meet so many people that I never would have without the personals.
We met at a local restaurant. My first impression was that he was cuter in person. He had a great smile and he seemed like such a nice guy. We laughed a lot. I was nervous and when I'm nervous I talk a lot. I thought I may have talked too much, but he didn't think so. It was a good balance because I still talk more than he does!
I think it's a wonderful way to screen people to see if they are for you without wasting your time. The pictures are a great addition. I had even joined a dating service that cost way too much money and with that, you don't know what the person looks like when you go to meet them. Not that looks are the only important thing, but attraction is. You know what you are attracted to and what you aren't and a picture can eliminate a lot of wasted time and effort, not to mention getting your hopes up and then being so disappointed when the spark isn't there in person. I owe a lot of happiness to Yahoo!.
